Providence October 30 1830 letter from Rush to investors notes a Rhode Island to Philadelphia packet line now operating six schooners of about seventy tons each with weekly departures from both ports and freight demand. Authorities credit manufacturing growth in Rhode Island and nearby regions for over 1.5 million dollars in property and a boom in internal coastwise trade aided by policy changes during the Treasury era.
