Valentine tale and social ruin at a 1819 Ohio wedding tale
A long prose piece from the Huron Reflector recounts a Valentine episode involving Helen Seymour and lawyer James Murray, detailing a drawing of a jackass, the severing of their engagement, Mrs Seymour’s heartbreak, and Helen’s subsequent marriage to a fortune seeker. It closes with moral reflections on valentines and a longer digression on Providence and social mores.
