A misidentified visitor, armed with a cowhide, confronts the editor and the incident ends with a bruising muddle and mutual apologies. The piece then shifts to lighter items including a satire on wealth plans and a comical ad about a suitor with cash.
Fragment from a 1843 history of the Fire Lands recounts two skirmishes on the Peninsula during the 1812 War. Narrator, sixteen then, describes troops marching from Camp Avery, Cedar Point, and Ramsdell’s house, Indian attacks, boat losses, heavy fighting, deaths of Ramsdell and Bills, and the cautions of commanders amid a chaotic pursuit near Huron River and the bay.
