Love and Gooseberries. A Sentimental Story Parody
The editor laments weather and drafts a playful sentimental piece. It humorously weighs choosing horror, necromancy, or a love tale, riffing on lovers, castles, and an archetypal corset of Victorian tropes while lampooning sentimentality and social mores.

Sheep rearing urged to boost Michigan flocks and farms
The piece urges expanding sheep farming across the region to clothe and feed the population. It highlights Michigan’s goal to become wool producing, cites Vermont as a strong sheep state, and notes Ohio and Western Pennsylvania also have good flocks while urging a larger increase. Also mentions a Boston paper noting the marriage of James Odds to Martha Eads with a playful pun about the Odds and Ends.
