It cites eighty million in liabilities against ten million specie, twenty six million in circulation, and thirty million in government money held, warning of bank favoritism and government loss. The National Intelligencer adds a public document listing bank totals: capital twelve million three hundred fifty six thousand eighty eight, treasury funds twenty eight million two hundred thirty nine thousand seven hundred forty four, public officers over two million, and other items totaling extensive public deposits and liabilities.
The act authorizes mortgagees to file satisfaction receipts on mortgage records. County recorders must leave space for margin entries of satisfaction and may charge twenty five cents for recording. It clarifies existing practices remain valid. Passed March 12, 1836.
The Ohio General Assembly enacts a law prohibiting any Ohio bank or corporate body from acting as or transacting banking business for the Bank of the United States or any of its branches or agencies. It also forbids establishment or management of such branches within the state and disallows issuing currency or notes purporting to be money for the Bank of the United States.
