Fire destroys Lyme tavern owned by Stephen Ell
A large brick building in Lyme owned by Stephen Ell was destroyed by fire around noon on the 30th. The blaze started among the stacks of hay and spread rapidly, causing total loss of the tavern and its contents. Several boats had arrived in local harbors as the fire broke out nearby.

Bank announces plans to redeem paper in circulation
Farmers' Bank of Canton issues a public notice stating it is able to redeem all paper in circulation as debts are collected. Directors include John Harres and Lewis Fogle. Crewetawn, March 26. A separate item reports a deadly accident from gunpowder found by children and a House session with petitions on dueling annexation of Texas and the Sub Treasury bill.

Monster and market notes from a distant era
A fragment describes a strange swamp monster displayed in Albany Market then shipped to New York on the Rochester steamboat. It also cites a National Bankruptcy critique from the Albany Eve. Jour. lamenting a rising national debt and profligate government, followed by a June 1838 notice of flour beef pork and whiskey prices and a brief misdated weather section.
