Police Chief Richard Nelson warns horses on streets and sidewalks are a public nuisance. He notes riders cannot control horses and complaints about manure have been filed. Owners are urged to keep animals off streets or face action.
The Huntley American Legion Post 673 will hold its annual summer carnival on June 8, 9, 10, and 11. Fish fries start Friday at 5 30 p.m. and chicken will be served on Sunday starting at 1 00 p.m.
The English Whitechapel hand bells purchased by the Senior and Chancel choirs of the United Church of Christ Congregational will be dedicated in a special music worship festival on Sunday morning June 4 at 10 45 am. Choirs including children and Chancel will perform and the community is invited.
June events include a noon luncheon on Wednesday at United Church of Christ Social Hall with an outdoor cooking demo by Home Economists of Northern Natural Gas Company. The American Legion Post 673 hosts a carnival Thursday through Sunday and a Father’s Day Lions Club chicken barbeque on June 18.
The Huntley Park Board announced cleanup days at the Park on Saturday June 3 at 10 a.m. and Sunday June 4 at 1 p.m. Volunteers should contact Mike Kiley president of the board and come prepared with paint brushes saws hammers and related tools.
Huntley Little League plans a city league with three Minor teams coached by Elden Pfaff Ernest Stading Jr and Vern Non Downen. All games occur at the school south baseball diamond with a season schedule from June 1 to July 20 and a playoff in late July. Police Chief Richard Nelson reports a child scratched by a raccoon and warns against capturing wild animals as rabies risk increases.
The Huntley American Legion Post 673 and Legion Auxiliary held Memorial Day services on May 30 starting at the Legion Home with a parade led by firing squads and various units. At the cemetery Reverend Robert L. Frank led the invocation and Will Carlson of Algonquin delivered the main address as 11th district governor, noting current global tensions and the purpose of Memorial Day.
The Huntley Lions Club will install its incoming officers for the 1967-68 year at a dinner and guest night on Saturday June 10. The event takes place at the Embers east of Elgin with dinner served promptly at 7:00 p.m.
The American Legion county meeting was held in Crystal Lake on Thursday May 25. A ceremonial memorial for McHenry County veterans who died in the past year was conducted and officers for 1967 68 were elected: Commander Alvin Anderson Woodstock Sr Vice Commander John Skalany Crystal Lake Jr Vice Commander Don Enstrom Huntley Set at Arms John Costello Lake in the Hills Bugler Frank Ficek McHenry. Huntley attendees included Tom Bjorn Commander Donstrom Stanley Koch Harry Weltzien and Wm Hubbe.
The Park Board announced a temporary ban on motorcycles automobiles and horseback riding at Edwin F Deicke Park Dona he Woods until further notice after reports of deep ruts from motorcycles and holes caused by horses in muddy weather.
Illinois Toll Highway Commission plans to discontinue the Northwest Tollway ticket system from Elgin to the Wisconsin line early in 1968. A Route 47 interchange at McHenry County is eyed, with officials hopeful for construction next year, enabling direct Woodstock Huntley access to the Chicago area. The commission notes a feasibility study and will update Representative Pierce and others.
