Marine Erling Jr. Dies in Viet Nam Mission
Marine Cpl. William N. Erling Jr. died Sept. 6 in Viet Nam after gunshot wounds during a field operation near Quang Tin. He had written home from Viet Nam and earlier from a rest camp awaiting a six day break. He was a devout Christian and former ROTC standout from Austin, active with the Acme Tool Service, and had enlisted Aug. 25, 1966.

Seven West Northwest Side arterial streets would be affected in the alternate side parking plan announced last week by Mayor Daley. The plan aims to speed snow removal and street cleaning with 3 to 7 a.m. bans on alternate sides of streets. East side on North South streets Monday Wednesday Friday. West side Tuesday Thursday Saturday. North side on East West streets Monday Wednesday Friday. South side Tuesday Thursday Saturday. East West streets affected include North Chicago and Madison. Man Shot Outside Tavern as Suspect Arrested
Robert Stanfield was shot in the abdomen outside the All America tavern at 3018 North and later identified William T. Stewart as the shooter. Stewart, 22, faces aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon charges after police recovered a .22 caliber pistol and cartridges near 3139 Wabansia. Freddie J. Stewart, 20, was released.
