Northwest Side group forms to rival ONC
A new Northwest Side organization bounded by Grand Cicero Fullerton and Laramie formed after a spontaneous community push aims to speak for residents not professional organizers. The group plans its first meeting October 2 at Blackhawk Park field house and invites Alderman Aiello and a Planning Commission rep to discuss Crosstown Expressway and local blight.

Man Dies In Crash At Central Park And Armitage
Thomas Edward Hatley of Melrose Park was killed early Wednesday when his car was struck by a red light runner. The other vehicle, driven by Thomas F. Bagnall with Harold R. Shank as passenger, showed no brakes and was cited for multiple violations. Patrolmen Stockdreher and Hickey witnessed the crash and Hatley died en route to Walther Memorial hospital. A luncheon of the North Ave Crawford Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for tomorrow at the American Home Savings and Loan association.

In a midnight domestic quarrel at the Black Onyx tavern 3656 Fullerton James Edward Duncan age 25 was fatally stabbed by his wife Eisie Duncan 22 as Dorothy Zeman 35 and tavern owner Theresa Carlino witnessed. Duncan died at Belmont hospital. Mrs. Duncan was arrested at home.

36th Dahlia Show Set at Garfield Park
The 36th annual Dahlia show will be held at Garfield Park Conservatory on Sept 16 and 17. The Central States Dahlia society and Chicago Park District sponsor. entry is free. 4000 blooms and 50 arrangements on display with Miss Marcia Sass, the 1967 Dahlia Queen, present Sunday.

Bear incident fuels Scout leader's Philmont trek pledge
Fred Stoneberg of Chicago, adviser to Boy Scout Explorer Post 2360 at Assumption Greek Orthodox church, survived a bear attack during a wilderness trek to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. The 300 to 400 pound black bear latched onto his arm in a lean-to, then fled. After first aid, Stoneberg continued guiding his 15 active scouts on the trip and plans a return next year.
