Illinois bill targets coroner favoritism in counties
A Senate bill to curb coroners favoring one funeral home over others in a county passed to the House. It defines a coroner's case as death within 72 hours not attended by a physician, allows move of the body to the nearest mortuary with coroner consent when no next of kin exists, and exempts Cook County. The measure has backing from coroner and funeral directors associations. FDA supports such reform.
