Youth Faces Arson Charge In Series Of Home Fires

Roy Burns, 18, a roomer at 1742 N Monticello, faces arson charges in court for a series of fires on Dec 16 in the 1600 block of N Harding and 1726 N Springfield. He allegedly admitted setting eight fires including three on Harding and the Knutson residence fire.

Area Cadet Wins Trophy Named to Honor Neighbor

Cadet William F Quinlan Jr 18 of 1059 N Karlow becomes the first DePaul cadet to win the Capt Fedele Cicero rifle marksman trophy honoring the Viet Nam fallen ROTC graduate Capt Cicero. The memorial trophy goes to the freshman with the highest score each year engraving the winner on a university plaque.

Mrs. Gertrude Cicero widow of Army Capt. Fedele Cicero presents the memorial trophy to ROTC Cadet William F. Quinlan Jr. at DePaul University. The trophy honors DePaul’s first ROTC graduate to die in Viet Nam. Quinlan, a freshman, had the highest rifle score and will have the plaque inscribed with winners kept on display at the university.

Delia Jones Sentenced in Doll Slaying Eight to Twenty Years

Delia Ann Jones received an eight to twenty year prison sentence for her role in the killing of Austin police Sgt. Gerald Doll. Horton fired the fatal shot. Jones pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter, armed robbery, and auto theft. The pair had earlier committed a grocery store robbery before a March 29 gun battle that killed Doll and Horton.

Start Enforcing New Parking Laws In Austin

Austin police began enforcing the alternate side parking ordinance last week after a two week warning period. The affected streets Madison Chicago North Belmont Cicero restrict parking 3 am to 7 am, with additional snow route rules doubling fines and side-specific day restrictions.
