A Walther Memorial Hospital study finds wages account for about two thirds of total hospital costs. Rising skill requirements and higher pay for low wage jobs push costs, with nonwage costs and increased patient demand also lifting expenses. Medicare effects spurred a 1966 charge spike. Length of stay for most conditions shortened between 1958-60 and 1963-64.

Free Chest X rays Stop For Two Weeks Citywide
A Tuberculosis Institute mobile x ray unit will stop at 5209 Madison from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday Sept 8 offering free chest x rays. The drive followed a two weekly unit stay at Milwaukee Diversey and Kimball that yielded 6647 screenings. Numerous local organizations and church groups provided volunteers.
