Obituary of William O. Blomker of Humboldt at 87

William O. Blomker 87 of Humboldt died Friday morning at Tompkins Memorial Health Center Fort Dodge. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with burial in Union Cemetery. He was born Nov 17 1895 near Gilmore City and married Louella Folk in 1917. Survivors include three sons and a daughter, 18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and a sister. He worked in oil, farming, and the automobile business before retiring to Humboldt in 1972. His wife died in 1982.

Mary Lou Fosnaugh funeral held in La Verne

Funeral services for 54 year old Mary Lou Fosnaugh of La Verne were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church with burial in La Verne Cemetery. She died Friday evening at Town Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Survivors include her husband Albert two sons Richard Erickson of Wesley and Robert Erickson of Algona and six grandchildren. Mary Lou Hauptmann was born March 16, 1928 in Wesley. She married Lewis Erickson in 1946 and Albert Fosnaugh in 1975. She operated the A and M Lounge in La Verne after moving there in 1976. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary of Wesley and Amvets of Algona.

Funeral services for Eugene F Applegate held in Gilmore City

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Lutheran Church in Gilmore City for Eugene F Sneed Applegate 41 of rural Pocahontas who died Saturday after a battle with cancer. Burial followed at Clinton Garfield Cemetery in Rolfe. He is survived by his wife Cheralellen, sons Terry and Todd, his mother Anna Applegate, a brother Harvey Applegate, a sister Charlotte Christians, and a grandmother Minnie Guderian. Born October 8, 1941 in Rolfe, he grew up there, married Cheralellen Young in 1962, ran a trucking firm near Gilmore City, then farmed near Rolfe. He was active in FFA and the Albert City Threshermen Association and belonged to First Lutheran Church.

City plan details costs for downtown improvements

City officials outlined square footage costs for new retail buildings rehabilitation projects housing sidewalks streets and alleys water and sewer lines canopy changes and mall enclosures. Participants split into three groups to discuss plans and priorities with a March 14 meeting set to finalize recommendations.

Humboldt Recreation logo contest opens to artists

The Humboldt Recreation Department announces a logo contest inviting both professional and amateur artists. Entries on 8.5 by 11 inch white paper must be pencil ink or marker, one entry per artist, due by 5 p.m. Friday March 25 at the Humboldt Municipal Building. Planning meetings for Dakota City with a March 3 7 p.m. gathering at the Municipal Building to map the August 14 quasquicentennial events. Proposed activities include a park barbeque with horseshoes and fishing, a kiddie and adult parade, a street dance, a 5 mile Run Around Town, and a Cranston visit.

Severson inducted into BV society at Buena Vista College

Anita Severson of Bradgate was inducted into the 1983 Buena Vista College Alpha Chi National College Honor Society chapter. A junior finance and banking major, she is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Richard Severson, reflecting the society’s criteria of high academic achievement among top students.
