Co op Director Conference At YMCA Of The Rockies
Mr and Mrs Herman Vorland of Hardy attended the Co op Directors Conference at the YMCA of the Rockies near Estes Park Colorado July 24 27. Hundreds of co op director families from 19 states in the Midwest and Southwest joined seven Farmland Industries sponsored conferences to exchange ideas on cooperatives and agriculture. Farmland consultants led sessions on director roles responsibilities and the future of cooperative supply and marketing.

State Representative Sue Mullins releases results of a fair questionnaire showing a majority favor continued soil conservation aid and state support for job retraining. About 66 percent back Iowa recovering lost federal dollars for education libraries and health services. Midland Brothers of Webster City captured the top live placing at Humboldt County Fair open hog show with Roger Bottema of Dysart and Michael Davis of Humboldt finishing first and second. Hebner and Sons of Goldfield won the top carcass spots with Alan Hebner second, Deanne Davis third, and Vern Waechter fourth in the top ten. Lisa Wachter of Ottosen won the 4-H and FFA hog carcass title as 90 hogs sold for 133 dollars apiece averaging 11,970 dollars total. bids came from Hormel, Rath, Wilson and Farmbest.

Seventeen Humboldt County 4-H beef calves were shown at Iowa Beef in Fort Dodge after the fair, earning a total of 11,981 dollars at an average 705 dollars per head. Tom Heggen led the standings with a 1,050 pound calf yielding 629 pounds dressed. second was David Kramer and third Regi Benjamin.
