Twenty years ago items from the Town Inpex of August 26 1892 note Miss Maud B Hawkins celebrating her seventh birthday with a happy company of friends. The issue also mentions local business moves and community figures including Mr Miller grain buyer and Dr Coad selling land.
The state convention call urges a Sioux County meeting August 31 at 2 p.m. in the Orange City Court House to select delegates for a proposed Progressive State ticket. Eight delegates are allotted to Sioux County, with Theodore Roosevelt supporters urged to attend and discuss the party’s principles.
A lively Morton H Singer musical revue with Olive Vail opens at the New Grand Theatre in Sioux City for the Sioux City State Fair week starting Sunday September 16. The production features three large scenes, a backstage humor reveal, a star chorus, and popular songs as part of a cross country tour.
Lucile Lass Chamness died August 1 in Elkville Illinois after seven weeks of illness. Funeral services were held August 20 led by Rev William P Webb with Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 405 in charge at the grave. She was aged 210 years six days and addressed her mother as Ollaguna before passing. The obituary notes her as well known and beloved with many relatives attending from across Iowa and Illinois.
State convention notice invites Iowa progressives to Des Moines on September 4 1912 for a delegate nominating meeting. Delegates from districts will caucus at 9:00 AM and lay out business for the convention. Theodore Roosevelt and Hiram Johnson are championed as standard bearers of the Chicago program.
The Farmers Picnic will be held at the County Farm in Orange City on Thursday September 5 1912 at 10 AM with music by the Orange City Band. Addresses by Rev McEwan M McDonald of Ames F F Faville of Storm Lake N Balkema of Sioux Center Judge Hutchinson of Alton H G McMillan of Sioux City and G Klay of Orange City followed by a band concert and picnic dinner. Coffee sugar and cream provided free. lunch brought by attendees. B F Hawkins president. H J Vandewa treasurer secretary. J Beekhuis moved property near Catholic church to Ypma property. Mrs Ypma now in Minnesota.
