Hubbard Board awards 1.6 million bus garage addition

Hubbard School Board awarded the low bid of 16 695 for an addition to the school bus garage funded by the 1.6 million bond issue. Superintendent Loren Giblin called the project a tremendous achievement amid rising costs. Additional projects include Reed Elementary and the high school, with Roosevelt Elementary restrooms near completion and playground paving improving year round use.

Adult Enrichment Classes Begin October 6 in Hubbard

Community program announces adult enrichment courses at Hubbard Junior High and Senior High homes economics department. Registration October 1 7 to 9 pm entry via Orchard Street. courses include sewing cake decorating knitting flower arranging advanced sewing antiques typing and dog obedience with fees ranging from 10 to 12 dollars.

Hubbard Residents Named Sloan Scholars at Ohio State

Two Hubbard youths, William F. Hackett and Keith E. Stanovich, were named Alfred P. Sloan Foundation scholars. They will attend Ohio State University as part of a 148-recipient cohort with stipends from $200 to $260 annually.

Michael Laney Joins Air Force Academy Class of 1973

Michael H Laney son of Mr and Mrs H R Laney 1420 Mt Everett Rd is among 1400 freshmen cadets entering the U S Air Force Academy class of 1973 Cadet Laney earned entry after seven weeks of training including field conditioning at a simulated frontline base The class is the largest ever bringing enrollment to over 3800 Cadet Laney is a 1969 Liberty HS Youngstown Ohio graduate and National Honor Society member.

Hubbard Council Passes Fair Housing and Employment Law

In a special meeting the Hubbard city council unanimously approved emergency legislation defining unfair employment and fair housing practice and creating a Fair Employment Practice Committee. Penalties range from 100 to 1000 dollars or up to six months in jail. The mayor expected to sign Tuesday. Principal intent follows HUD pressure for local anti discrimination measures.

Rotary hears Miss Hardin plans for annual auction

Hubbard Heather Hardin a Rotary exchange student presented the Alvadelen Sweden banner to Rotary president Charles Malin at a covered dish dinner. Plans were discussed for the annual auction to fund foreign exchange and 26 Rotary service projects. The event set for Oct 11 at Hubbard High School. A flea market and lunch counter will be part of the auction activities.

Rites Held for Hubbard Man Killed at Lordstown

Funeral services were held for John J. Sawaska 26 of Hubbard who was killed at the Lordstown GM plant site after a picket line dispute involving Laborers Local 935 and Iron Workers Local 207. Willie Head Jr. 3, of Youngstown, faces first degree murder charges. Sawaska a Vietnam veteran and Hubbard High School graduate leaves parents two sisters and a brother serving in Vietnam.

Hubbard Township approves zoning for trailer parks

Three new trailer parks are under consideration in Hubbard Township after trustees approved a zoning amendment. The parks will be placed in a newly created residential zone and will each provide 5,000 square feet per trailer. The zone change becomes effective in 20 days.

Volunteers sought to aid Danny Hubbard brain injury recovery

More than two hundred volunteers from Hubbard area aid Danny Tucciarone after a May 1967 car strike. Five volunteers per period, ten minutes per session, 30 people daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays and holidays, with ongoing patterning exercises six times daily. Call Barbara Weimer, Donna Chappa, or Inabell McNuhol to help and join the substitute list.

Hubbard VFW to host steak fry with music and dance

Hubbard VFW Post 3767 will sponsor a steak dinner Saturday Sept 27 from 5 to 9 pm at the post hall. Donations are 3 dollars for the complete meal. Organ music will be played and a dance band will perform 9 30 pm to 12 30 am. Ohio state officials will attend to meet members. The event is open to members guests and visitors.

Edgar Wagner Named National Merit Semi Finalist

Edgar Wagner of Hubbard High School has been named a National Merit Scholarship Program semi finalist. He maintains a 4.0 GPA and ranks at the top of his class of 305 while playing on the tennis team and serving on the Kent Academic Team. He is one of 17 in Trumbull County to reach semi finalist status after the qualifying test given to 750000 juniors nationwide.

Adult Basic Education classes begin at Hubbard High

Firemen launch tickets for Hubbard Volunteer Ball

Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department begins selling tickets for the 2nd Annual Firemen's Ball at Idors Park Ball Room on Friday Oct 24 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Joe Fedorchak Orchestra provides music. Tickets cost one dollar from any fireman. Proceeds aid the Firemen's Insurance and Equipment fund. Chairs are Thomas McIntire and James Davis.
