Police chief Raymond Moffitt says speeding in school zones and rolling stops will bring fines and possible arrest with no warnings. He blasts drivers for risking children and orders strict enforcement during school hours, including reporting unsafe bus loading and unloading.
Hubbard School District announces free and reduced price meals under the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs. Eligibility follows federal and state guidelines, with annual income scales for up to eight members and increases per additional member. Applications are distributed to homes and must include the child's name for current or future eligibility.
Local health officials warn the Hubbard School District and area families to watch for head lice as children return to school. Nurses Mary Jean Hunt and Jeannette Williams sent precautionary letters advising scalp checks for itching and scratching.
City police and Youngstown officials cracked down on auto theft at Westview Heights Apartments. On August 27 at 2:30 a.m. officers arrested three juveniles found in a parked yellow van after pursuing two who fled on foot. The youths, 16 and two 17-year-olds, face complicity auto theft and additional charges. warrants planned for two more suspects. The case was turned to Trumbull County Juvenile authorities and Mahoning County Juvenile officials for processing.
The Hubbard Merchants and Restauranteurs Association announces a two day Harvest Celebration on October 17 and 18 with events at multiple downtown locations. A pumpkin contest requires seeds bought from HMRA and displays in the square plaza. other contests include needlework at Country Craft Supply and ceramic work at The Browse Shoppe. floral decoration at Tole n Trinkets and an art contest at South Hollow Gifts feature pumpkins in all entries.
A. David Trewin will become publisher of Phoenix Publications Inc. effective Sept. 8 overseeing the Niles Daily Times and 10 affiliated weeklies including Austintown Leader and Boardman Leader. He previously led Penny Saver in South Bend and directed advertising at Hammond Times.
