Hubbard volunteers organize a relief drive inspired by the 1985 tornado. A dropoff site at Sparkle Plaza collected enough donations to fill a tractor trailer to one fourth its capacity within 24 hours, as residents mobilize to assist hurricane victims.
The Hubbard Historical Society will meet Thursday September 10 at 7 30 p m in the First Presbyterian Church social hall. Guest speaker William Henry will discuss his years with the Hubbard Fire Department. The last meeting featured a dinner picnic at Stambaugh Auditorium and a facility tour led by Barbara Armstrong.
Hubbard Board of Education approved a $84,719.74 purchase for 926 auditorium seats amid asbestos abatement grants totaling $441,956 and a $27,000 Buy a Seat fund. Seats from Waller-Duman. Inc. will bear purchaser plaques. opening planned this year. Also recalls and hires for music and PE staff and pool supervisors. Athletic release granted for Robert Hurst to Badger High School. Next meeting Sept. 28.
During a work session on Aug 27 the Hubbard city council heard a Gortz firm proposal to rewrite job descriptions and conduct a Job Equity Study for about 35 city positions. The study would cover all American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees and service workers supervisors except safety forces, with both council and union approval required.
Hubbard police seek information on the removal of three newly installed Hubbard signs at city entrances. Callers may contact the department without providing their name. The sign installation was funded by donations from the community.
Hubbard Roosevelt Elementary Parents Association invites all parents to a September 9 meeting at 9 a.m. in the school small cafeteria to discuss child welfare and strengthen home school ties. David Himes donated signs for the project, while Mayor Albert Sauline Jr. notes police will increase patrols amid vandalism and a mugging incident.
