Mrs. Wolford of Walnut St ran a classified ad in the Hub bard News offering a six room house for rent with bath and furnace on Dollar Price Rd. The ad drew at least 30 calls and she rented the house at once. Call KE 4-1124 for the classified ad department.
The Hubbard Public Library closes its two group summer program for ages eight to fourteen on August 29 after starting June 26. Ninety two children enrolled with a Baseball Group counting reads as hits and runs while Build a New Library Group added bricks for each reported book. Certificates went to 47, Red Seals to 31, and Gold Seals to eight. a party featured a story by Mrs. Carl T. Morell and a talk on baseball by Ernie Ruby.
Two New Castle men are jailed in Trumbull County awaiting investigation after a 20 year old waitress alleged she was attacked early Sunday while being driven home by the pair. Patrolman Pat Camuso stopped the men around 2 30 a.m. and learned from the girl they assaulted in Hubbard Township before heading toward a plaza. Deputies later transferred them to Warren County Jail.
The Hubbard Republican Women’s Club will hold a meeting at 8:00 p.m. on Monday September 11 in the Metropolitan Savings and Loan meeting room. A business session and program will follow, with refreshments served.
Five Hub bard misses organized a Monday carnival at Patty Rossi's home on Roseview Drive raising 215 cents for the American Cancer Society in Warren. Ten year old Patty led Debbie Ann Miller Kathy DiCarlo Kathy Pieton and Elaine Vargo with about 20 local children attending. Prizes were awarded and Debbie Ann Miller's mother, Mrs. George Miller, delivered the funds to The Hubbard News office the next day.
In West Philadelphia a posse nabbed 19 year old James Blaigen after his horse Outlaw rammed two cars in heavy traffic and fled the scene. Blaigen was arrested on a disorderly conduct charge and the horse was cleared.
Deputy Fire Marshal ordered a condemned house on Chestnut Ridge Road burned. Hubbard Volunteer Fire Department stood by to supervise and practice while the two structures, a two story frame house and a rear shack, were burned.
The Hubbard Lyric Club will hold a banquet and installation of officers at The Tavern in New Wilmington on Monday September 11 at 6 30 p m Mrs Henry Madeline and the program committee will be hostesses.
City council approved the 1962 budget of 189159 with 128459 for the general fund and 60700 for streets, a decrease of about 8334 from this year. The measure requires county auditor approval and notes legal transition to a city allows limited future adjustments.
The Hubbard PTA will hold its first 1961 62 meeting on Thursday September 14 at 8 p m in the Roosevelt Junior High auditorium. Rev Dale Kuhns will give the invocation. Mrs Harold Emch PTA president will introduce the Heart Association directed program featuring a heart disease film and a guest speaker yet to be named. Afterward the program there will be room visitation with refreshments in the cafeteria.
The Liberty Chapter of the American Field Service held a picnic at Churchill Park on Wednesday August 30 attended by foreign exchange students their host families and American students back from studying abroad. Attendees studied Atlas and maps to locate the farthest traveling student Mark Pickhaver of Australia traveled over 13000 miles to study in the United States.
A short in an electrical motor in the basement of the Hubbard Recreation Center at 109 N Main St caused smoke on a Sunday afternoon. Firefighters arrived after a neighbor noticed smoke and opened the front door. The motor on a compressor burned out. no other damage reported. Fire Chief B A Wills led the response.
I J Jenkins 53 of 1613 Knapp Ave was arrested by Alcohol Tax Unit and state liquor investigators after a raid at 813 Rosser Ave Hubbard Township. He faced illegal whisky operation charges, waived preliminary hearing, and posted 1500 dollars bond. A 5 gallon drum still with three burners and six 50 gallon mash barrels were found. Jenkins claimed he ran the still for about three years and moved in after previous tenants left.
