Students endure 24 hour fallout shelter in interscholastic project
Hubbard and Brookfield high schools staged a day long simulated postwar shelter exercise for 41 students. They debated governance, rationing, and survival while exploring nuclear winter, genetics, and social teamwork. The exercise shifted from conflict to cooperation as groups formed democratic structures and planned for humanity’s future.

Hubbard Seeks Senior Miss and Tiny Tots Contestants
Entries are now being accepted for two Hubbard Pageant contests. The Senior Miss or Mrs. contest is for women 60 or older, residing in Hubbard City or Hubbard Town. Tiny Tots welcomes children up to four years old. Both require photos, personal details, a short paragraph for eligibility, and a $15 entry fee. Students protest teacher layoffs at area high school
At the May 18 Board of Education meeting Hubbard, students led by Steve Dattilo and Erica Speer objected to four teacher layoffs amid a looming deficit near one million dollars. A June 2 levy is on the ballot to try to rescue funding, with $230,000 still to be cut even if approved. The district plans further $600,000 reductions next year.
