Ohio DOT halts and reverses a 5 million I 80 resurfacing project after winter moisture-absorbing siltstone in the asphalt caused crumbling pavement. Deputy director Fisher says the layer will be removed and replaced with winter-appropriate materials. Pennsylvania reports similar issues.
Safety Director Joseph Laurie told City Council Eastern Trumbull Ambulance, a Brookfield firm, has begun responding to Hubbard calls with an average five to seven minute response. ETA is used for emergencies by police and fire and the 534 8153 exchange. ETA crews have saved two heart attack victims. Sherman Ambulance will still be contacted, but ETA will receive calls first as Sherman no longer dispatches from Hubbard.
ETA, an upstart based in Brookfield and Sharon, fields 24 hour paramedics in Ohio approved cardiac drug handling, 15 EMTs and three advanced technicians rotating on 24 hour shifts. Owned by Ke Barrett Ernie Cook and Mark Wheeler, ETA serves neighboring townships with three fully equipped vehicles and plans to engage local fire and service groups.
Hubbard The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW will observe Poppy Days May 24 and 25 with Mayor William Colletta urging citizens to wear the red memorial poppy as a token of thanks for wartime sacrifices. Volunteers from post 3767 and local youths will collect donations citywide to aid veterans and their families.
Liberty Trumbull County commissioners face a time pressure as state control ends and the county must receive a $4.2 million bid-led core funding package for the juvenile court center. An additional $200,000 from state startup costs may be added to reach the $4.55 million total, with bids valid only 90 days until July 17.
Trumbull County commissioners recertified the 1985 budget as they anticipate 1 154 500 from a half percent piggyback sales tax. The tax could yield about 4 million annually if approved by voters this fall, but state figures project about 1 150 000 in 1985 due to processing delays. Funds will go to a special account and 64 000 in anticipated revenue approved for renovating the prosecutor’s offices with contracts to A F C Interiors Aerotech Contract Design Wayne Electrical and others. They also approved financing with state Industrial Revenue Bonds for a high security storage and distribution area on Youngstown Road Southeast Howland Township.
