City well drilling leaves Hubbard residents dry for days

Geologists from Moody and Associates and the city water department halted a test well near Bedford Road after 350 gallons per minute were pumped for 45 hours, causing water loss to about 25 households for six days. Residents voiced safety and information concerns. wells later recovered as the city seeks a source for up to one million gallons daily.

Cemetery tax rate kept at .2 mill in Hubbard joint meeting

Hubbard City Council and Hubbard Township Trustees set a .2 mill upkeep tax for Hubbard Union Cemetery, same as last year, and reelected Patton Gilliland to the cemetery board with Harvey Hatch and John Council. In a regular session, an emergency variance fee ordinance was amended to apply only to commercial zone changes and conditional use permits, with a $50 fee. Wilson Patton cast the lone opposing vote. The council also approved water plant employee wage adjustments retroactive to April 1. Mayor Magee apologized for a May 1 high line connection delay that left the city without power all morning and said sidewalk plans with Nick Carsone of Mark IV Homes would be pursued once other contractors are involved this spring.

Police report shows Hubbard Township arrests and training

Hubbard Township police reported 14 arrests since operations began April 15. They answered 77 complaints and logged 6,400 miles driven. Two juveniles were nabbed for tire theft at Ray Slavin Ford. Restitution of 800 dollars was promised for a broken fence and tires. A burglary on Mack Dr yielded 125 dollars in recovered items and an arrest is expected. Three deputies will attend nine training seminars starting May 31. Deputy Anthony Beal will graduate from the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy May 28.
