Voters Face Tight May Primary in Trumbull County

In Hubbard and Masury Brookfield the May primary draws 4 063 Hubbard residents and 3 378 Masury Brookfield voters for party nominations. Democratic candidates include DelBane for state representative 99th District and Man nassah for county recorder. Republican Jurko seeks county treasurer. Kirwan faces strong opposition from Haagan and Gilmartin in the 19th District race with Lewis Mounting the Democratic foe in the general. Judges seek seats in the 11th District Court of Appeals with Jones as Republican candidate. County commissioner races loom tight with seven Republicans and four Democrats competing for two nominations. Polls open 6 30 a m to 6 30 p m.

Four Issues on Primary Ballot May 7

Voters will decide four statewide measures next Tuesday May 7 none local. Issue No 1 would repeal an 1850 constitutional provision and let the legislature dispose of lands and funds for education. Issue No 2 proposes a method to fill vacancies in the Ohio House like that used in the Senate. Issue No 3 would modernize Ohio’s court system and reduce delays. Issue No 4 funds a Trumbull County vocational school with two mills for ten years.

Polling Places Set for Hubbard Area Elections

Hubbard city and Hubbard Township residents can vote from 6:30 am to 6:30 pm at listed sites including American Legion Halls, Hubbard High School, Roosevelt School, Kelley Garage, and local businesses. Polling locations span Hubbard and surrounding towns with multiple precincts.

City approves 25 percent sewer and water rate hike

At a April 24 meeting the City Council voted 6-1 to raise sewer and disposal plant usage by 25 percent. Water rates go up about 25 percent with a June billing, minimum rising to $1.70 and sewer charges about 75 percent of water rates. Emergency repairs to the Christian Avenue standpipe may cost up to $7,000 with Kessier Co. Inc. contracted.

Hubbard Youth Baseball Dance Planned At Yankee Lake Ballroom

Plans are set for the fourth Hubbard Youth Baseball Dance on Friday May 3 at Yankee Lake Ballroom. Music by Joe Fedorchak from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. A $100 savings bond prize will be awarded. ticket holders entering the door have a chance to win. Proceeds aid Hubbard minor Little League and Pony League players.

PTA Scholarships Due May 3 for Hubbard High

Essays for two $406 Hubbard PTA scholarships must be filed by Friday May 3. Submit to Wiliam McAlpin Hubbard High School guidance counselor. Interviews set for Friday May 10 with committee members Gail Patrick Claris K Jones Alfred Deane Ray Dosch James McLaughlin and Robert Gray. The scholarships have been awarded for 13 years to graduating seniors pursuing teaching.

Fire damages Lackey Tire Co. over $100000 loss

A trash blaze caused a fire at the Lackey Tire Co. in Youngstown on Tuesday destroying the plant. Damage was estimated at more than $100,000.

Acting Judge Fox Rules against Hubbard ministers in Blue Law case

In Girard, Acting Judge Eugene B. Fox found three Hubbard ministers not guilty on charges of Sunday sales under the Ohio Blue Law. He ruled items purchased as necessities like apples and soup could justify acquittal, while noting the law is vague and may be unconstitutional. The ministers planned no immediate continued campaign and would reconvene next Tuesday.

Orthodontist to Open New Office in Hubbard

Dr. Raymond W. Najem will open an orthodontics practice at 112 N Main St Hubbard with hours by appointment. He is a Hubbard High School graduate who earned a D D S from Western Reserve University in 1963 and a master of science in orthodontics from Ohio State University in March. He served three years in the Air Force and interned at Travis Air Force Base. The Najem family, including his wife Jo and children Wade David Lisa Julie, reside in Boardman.

George Mazarakis Wins East Ohio Gas Scholarship

George Mazarakis son of Mr and Mrs Arthur G Mazarakis 425 Helen and a Hubbard High School senior was named one of four recipients of an East Ohio Gas Co scholarship. The award provides 1000 yearly for four years plus summer work with the company based on scholastic achievement and leadership. He ranked eighth in his class and has held roles in Student Council National Honor Society Key Club Hi Y and other activities including sports and band. He plans to attend Bucknell University in the fall.

Buckeye Boys State delegates named for Ohio University event

American Legion Boys' State chairman Daniel J Dinmire announced Hubbard High School juniors chosen to attend Buckeye Boys State at Ohio University in Athens June 13 to 21. Hubbard High Class of 38 Plans Reunion Dinner Dance

The Class of 1938 from Hubbard High School will mark the %th anniversary with a dinner dance in the Jade Room of the Mural Building Youngstown on Saturday July 13. Ridge Principal Named Among Outstanding Young Men

Carl Morell of 250 Westview Avenue Hubbard is among six Youngstown State University alumni listed in the 1962 Outstanding Young Men of America. Morell, a 1959 education BS graduate with a master’s from Westminster College, is Chestnut Ridge School principal and a member of Ohio and National Education Associations.

Walter Trock Heads Inter-Club Council in Hubbard Area
