Hubbard Township officials rebut a City Council label calling the township a suckling parasite and warn separation would cost the community. Trustee Raymond Kulow cites shared services, fewer dollars per mile for 40 miles of roads, and decades of cooperative effort as the basis for remaining united.
Solons approve an emergency ordinance authorizing bids for a new $400,000 Harding Park power substation. The project, funded from the Light Investment Fund, aims to backfeed southern areas and reduce Ohio Edison dependence while adding reserve capacity.
City Council moves separation measure to a third reading to cut from the township and form a new township. Proponents cite local governance gains while opponents warn of financial losses for the township and federal revenue sharing. If approved, the plan goes to Trumbull County Commissioners for final action.
The community Sunrise Service will start at 6 30 a m Easter Day at First Presbyterian Church with participating area churches and the Hubbard Community Chorus. Afterward the Central Christian Church Men’s Fellowship hosts an Easter breakfast and the church holds an 11 a m Easter service led by Rev Randy Clay.
Hubbard area Chamber of Commerce trims staff by eliminating the executive secretary role for financial reasons and shuttering the Truck World office. President Richard Jugenheimer confirmed the move and noted the position formerly held by Anthony is gone.
Ten residents compete for city posts in the June primary. Incumbents seek re election except Wilson Patton who runs for mayor against William Colletta and Eugene E. Alexander. Law Director Blackwell is challenged by Michael Bernard and Alfred Tribby. Council President Sauline Jr. runs unopposed along with Wittenauer and Palestro. Ward races feature Glad vs Gilliland and George. No Republican field in 2nd Ward. The piece notes Chamber budget and staffing changes as well.
