Easter Seals drive aids Sharon and other children

Sharon Siverling, a three year old with mild cerebral palsy and partial blindness, benefits from the Easter Seals program at Halsey Taylor Rehabilitation Center in Warren. Local campaign co chairs Beverly Siverling and Nadene Marshall urge support on Sunday April 1 from 1 to 3 PM in Trumbull County to fund therapy and speech plans for children with strokes accidents cerebral palsy multiple sclerosis polio arthritis and birth defects.

Town Pump names new Valley Pontiac sales manager

William F. Wolf of Hubbard has been appointed general sales manager of Valley Pontiac Co in Youngstown. Wolf brings over 13 years of automotive sales experience to the post and is joined by wife Louise and five children. The report also notes civic items from Girard City Council debate over a one mill levy to cover a deficit in the general fund and a local Easter Seal drive in Hubbard with a street dance kickoff.

Tax Talks Scheduled For Public Meeting On Levy

The Board of Education schedules a public meeting next Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Junior High Elementary School cafeteria to discuss a proposed 4 mill levy on the May primary ballot. Dr Kenneth D St John and board members plan outreach after unanimously approving the levy on March 6.

Hubbard Township Financial Report Shows 1960 Balance

The annual fiscal report for Hubbard Township ends December 31 1960 with a balance of 27027.33 dollars including 11145.25 in road funds and 15882.08 in general and other funds. Clerk Ralph Salerno reports no outstanding debts. Beginning 1961 balance is 8287.64 dollars. Receipts for 1960 total 76700.04 with 67580.21 disbursed.

McGuffey Center program gains community backing

Hugh A Frost outlined the McGuffey Center project from idea to reality to Rotarians, with Homecoming Association Hubbard clubs and service groups pledging support. Mrs. Alfred S Glossbrenner chairs the capital fund drive that aimed for 225000 and raised 225044 by August 31. The center, lacking a gym, serves about 6000 members with a 61000 budget this year and relies on six full time, four part time staff plus 25 to 30 volunteers.

Baxter Named to Superintendent's List at Naval Academy

George Ronald Baxter, son of Hubbard residents, earned a place on the superintendent's list for the first half of the second term at the U S Naval Academy Annapolis Md. He ranks in the top 16 percent of the 3860 midshipmen with a 3 3 academic average and strong marks in aptitude conduct and physical education. Baxter was Hubbard High School salutatorian 1959 and active in Student Council National Honor Society Hi Y Bard Staff Key Club. He will graduate with a commission as an ensign in 1963.

Valley Mould President Listed in Who's Who in America

William C. H. Ramage Jr., president of Valley Mould and Iron Corp., named in the new Who's Who in America issue. He heads plants in Hubbard, Cleveland, and Chicago and also leads the Industrial Information Institute. The edition lists 56,000 total honorees, a rise of 1,854 from the prior volume.

Gas Price Reduction Continued in Hubbard Area

Gas dealers in Hubbard and nearby towns kept cutting prices this week. John Glod of Glod's Uptown Gulf Service, a director of Independent Gasoline Dealers, Inc., dropped regular to 23.9 cents to meet competition from three operators near the Pennsylvania line. He had moved from 29.9 to 24.9 on March 15 and lowered to 23.9 last Friday. Glod said the industry is meeting competition with competition as older dealers lose gallonage to unbranded rivals, with losses shared by dealers and major oil companies. Prices vary one to three cents and price conferences are prohibited by law. Niles also trimmed about three cents over a two-day period.

License Deadline Saturday for 1961 Plates in Ohio

The 1961 license plates become illegal after midnight Saturday March 31. Ohio Safety Director Grant Keys says there is no grace period or exceptions under the Revised Code. Plates can be purchased locally from Mrs Mary Rock at 239 School St.

Dissociation Plan To Be Discussed By City and Township

City council and Hubbard Township trustees plan a Monday meeting after the regular session to weigh cutting financial ties. The plan could net the city about $5,000 for the general fund while Hubbard Township would gain $10,000 to cover losses, with 0.65 mills in tax changes and 0.15 mills to health and cemetery funding.

Parking Problems Studied On W Liberty Street

City council and local merchants discuss proposals to ban parking along part of W Liberty Street from Liberty Confectionery to Metropolitan National Bank on one side and from Golden Shop to Ray Rice law office on the opposite side. Merchants including Wilson Patton of Patton's Market fear four parking spots would be lost daily affecting customers and business. last February the council heard similar complaints about inconvenience and detriment to commerce.
