Hubbard Public Schools Superintendent Dr Kenneth D St John outlines the need for a four mill school levy in the May primary. He cites rising enrollment from 3100 to 3700 by 1965 66 and explains required expansion in industrial arts commercial subjects and science with higher costs for high school facilities.
Joseph Baldine, Trumbull County Commissioner from Hubbard, urges change to three welfare rules affecting evictions, non-support charges, and eligibility for married couples. He accuses Welfare Director William Wike of mismanagement as Hubbard Democratic Club backs Robert Hagan for local office.
Deadline for voter registration in Trumbull County is Wednesday March 28. Voters may register at the Board of Elections office 176 Chestnut Street NE Warren, open until 9 p.m. during the last ten days, excluding weekends. An attendant is available at noon, so register early.
Hubbard Township trustees vote to amend the zoning ordinance to prosecute abandoned, wrecked, or dismantled vehicles and materials. Constables will aid in inspections, penalties apply, and residents risk fines. Also approved wage increase for welfare workers and new township constable Frank Marshall starts April 1.
A hearing for Eugene Moses 37 of Youngstown is tentatively scheduled for March 29 in Trumbull County Court before Judge John Masternick. Moses faces a concealed weapon charge after John Dinger 18 was shot during a party at Dinger’s home. Dinger remained in fair condition while investigators pursue conflicting accounts from party guests and neighbors.
The Van Dykes sponsor a St Patrick's Day record hop on Saturday March 17 at 8 p.m. in Hubbard Odd Fellows Hall with music by Paul Smith and the Blue Notes. A king and queen will be crowned. admission is 50 cents and refreshments will be sold. Public invited.
Mahoning National Bank will open its tenth branch this summer in the shopping plaza at East Liberty and South Main Street. Vice President J Howard Hitchcock announced OCC approval and a planned June 1 opening.
Hubbard officials discussed a 1 percent municipal income tax to raise about $150,000 to fund street repairs and recreation. Mayor Sauline warned funds must be earmarked for streets, while councilman Colletta and Dr. Crowe cited deferred improvement needs and alternate revenue options. Current revenue rises from county and reassessment boosts, with total tax rate at $35 per thousand.
The Board of Library Trustees moves to bid out an $80,000 public library on West Liberty Street near Hubbard Junior High after securing a 99 year lease with the Board of Education. Leonard Friedman, the architect, says construction could start in May with a Columbus DPW approval.
Approximately 400 industrial and business leaders attended an open house for General American Transportation Corp at a new 1.5 million paint shop in Masury. The facility, replacing the 1960 fire‑destroyed plant, is described as the country’s most modern railroad car painting and refinish site.
Youngstown Mayor Harry Sevasten greeted high school representatives led by Roy Mimna for Civic Day. Mimna, son of Mr and Mrs Paul Mimna of Hubbard, toured city offices and observed sewerage briefing and mayoral mail. Civic Day features Seniors from 21 Hi Y and Tri Hi Y taking city and county posts sponsored by the United Veterans Council, Boards of Education and YMCA.
William Livosky addressed the Television Electronic Service Association gathering at Horvath's Tea Room in Youngstown on Wednesday evening March 14. Ralph Cooper of Hubbard presided and Robert Ripley of Appliance Wholesalers discussed the Instant Dividend Plan.
Hubbard High teacher Mrs Ethel Bowers urged US to stay in the United Nations citing Dag Hammarskjold on reducing conflict. Councilman Dave O Neil warned of world despotism if the UN loses reform power. Four Hubbard students spoke on science fair success at Central Christian Church luncheon.
The Hubbard Area Chamber of Commerce Inc. was granted a nonprofit corporation charter by Secretary of State Ted W. Brown. Initial trustees include F. K. Harris and Wilson Patton among others. Forty one members approved Monday, with Wilson Patton chairing the encore membership drive and Bill Hulbert named to fill a vacant vice president post.
About 50 steel executives industrialists and customers toured Banister Construction Co.’s Coalburg plant built last year for pipe coating using Scotchkote resin by Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing. Banister plans a public open house. The plant on Regina Drive and Mount Everett Road employs nine workers and aims to coat up to 15 million feet of pipe annually.
The U S Civil Service Commission announces an examination for Financial Analyst posts in the Housing and Home Finance agency. Salaries range from 6435 to 12210 annually. No written test required. Qualifications include specialized experience in analysis or development of loans to corporations or municipal governments.
