Township trustees renew ship license tax for 1993

Township trustees renew the permissive license tax at five dollars for 1993 after two public hearings. Trustee Fred Hanley commented on the tax.

Hubbard Township seeks to modify tax abatement

Hubbard Township trustees met June 19 in a special session to modify a tax abatement for Jugenheimier Associates on a vacant plaza behind Arby’s near I 80. The plan calls for a 75 percent abatement on new inventory for 10 years with $500,000 in proposed improvements, plus sewer and water tap ins. The panel expects about $34,000 in local road-related funds last year and will decide on the council’s recommendation after review by the city’s engineering consultant. Road-bid notices were issued for the annual paving program with bids due at a July 20 meeting.

Former Hubbard Woman Honored in California

Gardena honors Mayme Dear by renaming the city library the Gardena Mayme Dear Memorial Library. Mayme Tucciarone, a former Hubbard resident and long time Gardena educator at Denker Elementary, died in 1990 at age 74. She chaired Garden Friends of the Library, lived in Gardena 44 years, and her son Don is Gardena mayor. Local officials praised her dedication to education and the community.

Hubbard invites entries for two upcoming Founders Day pageants the Senior Miss and Mrs. contests for women 60 and older and a Tiny Tots contest for children through age four. entrants must include photos and personal details with a $15 fee, with a June 30 deadline and all materials sent to Hubbard Pageant P.O. Hubbard schools raise lunch prices amid mill levy gains

Hubbard Board of Education approved lunch price increases at Roosevelt Elementary from 1.10 to 1.25 and at Reed Middle and the high school from 1.35 to 1.50. Superintendent Morell credited the district's funding stance and thanked food service supervisor Verostko while recalling staff, approving contracts, and adopting attendance and academic award policies.

Senior citizen sought for Hubbard school panel

Hubbard Chamber Adds Two To Staff

Hubbard Hubbard Chamber of Commerce expands its staff with two hires Diane Ditman named activities director and Barbara Schultz as executive director. Ditman will oversee fundraising yearly calendar member features and member activities while Schultz handles daily office operations member recruitment meeting agendas newsletters mailings and news releases. The office hours are 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays and contact numbers 534 5120 or 534 2997 for messages. Officers listed Tom Cooksey president Mary Ann Lark vice president Fred Hanley secretary and Bruce Bell treasurer. The next board meeting is Tuesday July 14 at 7 45 a.m. in the Chamber office.

Computer lab fund started at Hubbard High School

A fund to establish a computer lab at Hubbard High School began with a $1,500 donation from local parents Bodan and Vera Kicovic. Board accepted the gift on June 22. Principal Richard Buchenic noted the Kicovics’ two daughters are alumni and two other children are in the system. About 15 old computers exist and about $30,000 is needed for 20 to 25 new machines to expand computer literacy and word processing. keyboarding is taught currently.
