Hubbard School officials announce a five percent cost of living raise as the first step in a three year contract for local teachers upon the June 30 1970 expiration. Additional increases depend on funds and state aid. The basic starting pay for an inexperienced teacher is $6000 annually.
Michele Trucksis of Hubbard Ohio was named Senatorial Page at the Ohio American Legion Auxiliary Girls State session in Columbus. She represents Sullivant in Zeller County as a Federalist participant among 1250 attendees learning government duties and civic responsibility.
The Hubbard Kiwanis Club will meet with the Hubbard Rotary Club this evening at 6 30 for a softball game. Both clubs aim to win in this annual affair likely to provide competitive and entertaining play.
The First Assembly of God Church youth group in Hubbard will hold a car wash on Saturday June 27 from 9 30 a m to 5 p m at 147 W Liberty St in the church's rear parking lot. Proceeds aid a community film purchase. Cars $1 each.
Stephen Muskie 21 son of Senator Edmund Muskie will marry Alexis Georgia Draggins 21 of Biddeford in a rock mass at Muskie's seaside summer home on Sunday. The couple are UMaine students. the ceremony is to be held in coastal southern Maine.
The Hubbard event crowned Best of Show to Mrs. E J Evans for a purple climatis Ramona in horticulture while Mrs. C R Aber won artistic division honors with Moon Rocks. Numerous blue and red ribbons followed across horticulture artistic and children divisions.
Hubbard officials announce the 1970 Homecoming Queen will be crowned by the 1969 queen Donna Bolchalk on July 28, with entrants aged 14 to 17. Entry requires an essay on Drugs and Myself, a photo, and deadline July 1 sent to Mrs. Jack Stabile. A parade, float entries, concessions, and meeting details are scheduled for late July.
HUD tentatively awards a 60 unit senior citizens high rise in Hubbard to Simco Developers of Youngstown for 961 275 on 1.05 acres at W Liberty and Bentley near downtown Hubbard. Feasibility studies will start July 9 to confirm buildability within the bid. Construction could begin in the Fall.
The Office of Economic Opportunity awarded Adams-Brown Economic Opportunities Inc in Decatur Ohio 140000 dollars to support poverty projects in health housing legal and consumer areas.
Naomi Carter presented the Hubbard Business and Professional Women's Club charter at a Charter Dinner in Niles with 75 attendees. Miss Pauline Mazarakis was installed as president, with Edith Pennell and Hilda Harder among officers. Commendations and introductions followed from State officers, Mayor Baldine, and BPW members before acknowledgments and a future address at Youngstown. Nickie D. Kostos and Thomas G. Ra Seta received U S Army commissions at YSU ceremonies.
Lena Moberg Swardh Hubbard's first American Field Service exchange student will return with her husband on Sunday June 28. They will spend about ten days with Lena's American parents Mr and Mrs Wilson Patton at 18 Belle Vista Drive. Lena arrived in August 1958 and is class of 1959 Hubbard High School graduate. The Pattons plan an open house to honor the couple and friends. Next week will announce the time.
The 313 mile Keystone Shortway section from the Ohio line to New York will open August 15 with gala ceremonies. Additional I-80 segments near Girard to Akron are slated for July 31 openings, linking Liberty Township and Austintown to Akron and points west.
Mrs Lillian Baker receives a suite of medals posthumously awarded to her son Staff Sergeant Martian Walker Jr killed in Vietnam in 1970. Col Basil Balaker presides at University of Akron ceremony awarding the Silver Star Bronze Star Air Medal Purple Heart and other honors for his actions during a night reconnaissance. Walker warned a comrade and charged enemy positions before being fatally wounded.
