Hubbard Homecoming seeks queen candidates for 1970

Hubbard Homecoming Association invites Hubbard or Hubbard Township girls in grades nine through twelve to compete. entrants must submit a photo and a two page essay titled Drugs and Myself typed and double spaced with personal details. Send by July 1 to Mrs. Jack Stabile at 106 W. Water St. Sponsors may donate a $15 check and provide a parade car and decorations.

Summer school classes begin at Hubbard Senior High

Hubbard All Hubbard high school and Junior high summer school classes will be held at Hubbard Senior High School. Driver education starts June 15 at 7 45 a.m. Other classes begin at 8 00 a.m. Algebra Orientation runs 9 00 to 11 00. Courses include American Government American History World History personal typing general science and driver education. A speech class is tentatively scheduled. Classes end July 24.

Homecoming Assn to Meet and Parade Plans Announced

The Homecoming Association will meet Wednesday June 10 at 8 30 p m in Council chambers to discuss Ride Ticket Concession participation. Homecoming events run July 29 7 p m parade at the Football Field through August 1 with Pugh's Amusement of Lancaster Ohio promising exciting rides. sign up for concessions June 27 noon to 4 p m in council chambers.

Optimist Club Boy of the Year Dinner Held in Hubbard

The Hubbard Optimist Club held the annual Boy of the Year Dinner at Helen's Diner on May 27. Five Hubbard High seniors David Hopkins Richard Glaser Jim Savich Edgar Wagner and Mike Lubono vich competed for the title with points awarded for appearance, grades, leadership, cooperation and sportsmanship. The plaque was presented to the winner at graduation ceremonies held Sunday. Frank Petrek led the club as president and George Hopes served as master of ceremonies.

Queen of Angels adopts nurse pants suits

Los Angeles hospital administrators approved a shift from white dresses to pants suits for nurses at Queen of Angels Hospital. The new outfit features slightly flared pants and a tunic and will stay white.

Rev. Francis Hughes longtime St. Stephen's pastor is reassigned to St. Patrick parish Hubbard effective June 12. The Very Rev. Bishop James Malone assigns Rev. John Turk of Alliance to St. Stephen's as new pastor, also effective June 12.

Pastor Rt Rev Msgr John R Toole Retires After Long Service

Rt Rev Msgr John R Toole retires as pastor of St Patrick Hubbard after 24 years in that role and 124 years combined priestly service of three men. Bishop James W Malone announced the retirement and the trio of retiring pastors includes Msgr William Dunn St Mary Warren and Msgr William Fitzgerald St Joan of Arc Canton.

Msgr Reagan to Lead St Bernadette Masury Parish

Very Rev Msgr Donald Reagan, after four years of study at Catholic University, will take the pastorate of St Bernadette Parish Masury on June 12. A 1947 ordination, he studied at Fordham Notre Dame and St Mary Seminary and has held many roles including Ursuline High principal and St William administrator.

Hubbard teacher chosen for Ohio State Education Workshop at Miami

Mrs Concannon, Hubbard High School Home Economics teacher, is one of nine Ohio teachers selected from over a thousand to attend a July workshop at Miami University. The event, co sponsored by the Council for Family Financial Education, emphasizes consumer buying and upgrading teacher techniques across Ohio.

DeMay to Attend Red Cross Leadership Center

Hubbard High School junior Dennis DeMay, son of Mr and Mrs Joseph DeMay of Masury, has been chosen by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross to attend the 1970 Northern Ohio Leadership Development Center from August 2 to 8 at Lake Erie College in Painesville. Delegates will share ideas study and plan ways to extend Red Cross services locally nationally and globally and receive leadership training.

Hubbard Parks Plan Urged To Upgrade City Recreation

Hubbard officials criticize the current parks and recreation program as outdated. Acting president John LaCivita calls for a system of small parks, a swimming pool, and more equipment to meet community needs, with land acquisition as the main hurdle. The city now operates four playgrounds and a tennis court, while plans consider toilets and drinking water at Waugh Drive, with summer programs and youth leagues ongoing.

Senior Awards Assembly Honors At Hubbard High

Hubbard High School held its Senior Awards Assembly on May 26 where valedictorian Edgar Wagner and Salvatorian Anne Bruner received top trophies. Wagner won the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award and multiple certificates. Bruner earned the Honor Roll certificate. Additional honorees included David Verch, Sheryl Albright, Paul Fluent, Joseph Pazillo, Denise Evans, Donald Slagzeriy, Nancy Blair, Kathy Foutz, and others receiving various merit, honor roll, and proficiency awards.

Wagner wins Nathan Cummings scholarship for Hubbard student

Ed Wagner, a Hubbard Hubbard High School senior, earned the 1970 Nathan Cummings Consolidated Foods Corporation scholarship. Edgar Wagner, 17, will attend Youngstown State University to study engineering or chemistry after maintaining a 4.0 GPA and serving in National Honor Society and science fairs. William Buzick Jr. presented the award at Silver Lake Country Club.
