In Hubbard 86 residents tied to Operation Desert Shield or Storm will be recognized with a plaque inside the city building. About 20 are Reservists with service near Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait, plus others in Germany and California. The tribute, funded by the Yellow Ribbon Fund, will be dedicated at 6 p.m. on July 6, with space for veterans to gather. Martha Bishop gathered the list as her husband Jim served in a medical unit. The mayor will send notes of thanks and invitations to those involved.

Council tables water district withdrawal plan
Hubbard council deferred an ordinance to withdraw from the Hubbard Girard Liberty water district. The bill would settle debts and empower the law director to collect funds owed. Mayor Al Sauline Jr. questioned the wording while council member John Darko sought more discussion before passage. The dispute centers on a $3,000 payment. $1,500 allegedly should be returned to city coffers. Township officials cite lack of authority to pay. Further questions were to be addressed with the water board chair Donald Joshua, city auditor. In other action, council approved a Mid-American Utility pole line rebuild contract up to 271,852.27 and applied 50,000 against notes for municipal building work.
