Hubbard Homecoming Parade Kicks Off 1961 Events

Hubbard hosts the 1961 Homecoming with a large parade of up to 80 units tonight. Festivities move to the high school stadium for four days of rides, food, and games through Saturday July 22. Merchants offer Get Acquainted Bargain Days with prizes totaling over 400 dollars in gift certificates plus five bicycles and more. shoppers earn tickets for Homecoming drawings.

J McConnell Files to Run for Hubbard School Board

John Bud McConnell 111 Corll St filed nominating petitions with Trumbull County Board of Elections to seek one of two Hubbard School Board seats. He is 40 and the first local resident to announce for the November race. He is an insurance agent for Prudential with three Hubbard children Marilyn John and Patricia in the local schools.

Hubbard Board Approves 1961 62 Budget for Schools

The Hubbard Board of Education approved a 1961 62 budget of 1 261 015 an increase of 54 000 over last year to fund additional teachers and wage increases. A public hearing preceded the vote with no opposition and the figure was approved as reported at the June 27 meeting. The board also accepted North American Insurance accident coverage at 2 per child for kindergarten to grade 12 and 3 for high school students with Robert Hogg as local agent. A walk in cooler for the Junior High Roosevelt cafeteria was deferred and athletic program changes were discussed with plans to study minor sports against broader participation goals.

Hubbard High School Homecoming Carnival 1961

Hubbard High School hosts a four day Homecoming carnival with 40 concessions and 10 rides in the football stadium. Free prize drawings award $25 gift certificates nightly and a final $100 certificate plus four bikes drawn each night. Winners must be present to claim prizes.

Brookfield Grange Hosts Friday Night Dance Series

The Brookfield Grange sponsors a Round Square and Polka Dance at Grange Hall on Bedford Rd every Friday from 9 to midnight with live music and 50 cent admission. Next Saturdays July 22 and 29 offer record hops from 7 30 to 10 30 with 35 cent admission for all invitees.

State and County Officials to Attend Homecoming Parade

City leaders report that multiple state officials including Governor DiSalle and Attorney General McElroy will attend the Hubbard Homecoming parade. Lt. Gov. Donahey may also appear if possible. County officials such as Violet Campana Whitman and Lynn B. Griffith Jr. will join, along with city and school officials. A Navy Reserve commander will be present and a registration booth will operate at the grounds. A reception follows for all guests with prizes for the oldest attendee and the farthest traveler.

Budd Leads Hubbard News Contest With 90 Points

Robert Budd holds the lead in the Hubbard News Subscription Contest this week with 90 points. Bob Mathews is second with 85 and Ed Novosel is third with 60. A four way tie for seventh includes Ed Gonder Dan Smith Rich Jugenheimer and Don Smith with 20 points each. The contest closes August 19.
