A township survey by Larry R. Walton for the Justice Institute outlines six police service alternatives to improve coverage. It recommends either expanding the sheriff contract or forming a joint district with neighboring townships, funded by a township levy.
The Wholesale Customers of Ohio Edison led by Hubbard filed an appeal with the Federal Power Commission to overturn OE s rate increase arguing the utility introduced a new case late in the process. Mayor Arthur Magee said the appeal seeks rejection or return to the original case and a decision is expected late July as cities meet with counsel.
Longtime educator Claris E. Jones announces retirement after 37 years in teaching and administration. He served as Hubbard School District superintendent for two years following roles as principal and assistant superintendent, and he plans travel and rock jewelry making as his post career focus.
Hubbard officials defeat a 20 cent and 25 cent raise amendment for 13 salaried city employees as a third reading is sought. The vote sparked debate over longevity and overtime pay versus union contract terms while other measures pass including dog limits, a petition, and traffic light synchronization.
A tour party at Alberini's Restaurant in Niles will present an Orient itinerary with a Hawaii stop. Departing Nov 5 and returning Nov 24, the trip visits Tokyo Hong Kong Bangkok Singapore and other Orient cities, with Honolulu on the return. Escort Pat Stauffer leads the group, sponsored by Warren Automobile Club and Niles Publishing Company.
