Pancake Day Benefit for Hubbard Foreign Students

The American Field Service Hubbard chapter hosts a pancake day on Sunday February 16 in the school cafeteria from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets cost 1.25 for adults and 0.73 for children 12 and under, with Amish sausage also served. Cochairmen Rudy Bender and Miles Rodgers oversee dining and publicity, while Ben Rinaldi of Rio de Janeiro. living with the Robert Gray family, is this year’s visiting student. Proceeds support inter country goodwill programs and AFS activities.

Galiffo Attends Seminar on School Curricula Changes

Eugene Galiffo, principal of Hubbard High, attended the School Management Institute seminar on the Management of the Secondary School Curriculum at the Ramada Inn in Columbus in January 1914. Attendees included state administrators and experts from Kent State University Miami University and Warrenville/OH schools. The event covered curriculum change leadership, implementation, and individualized instruction with a focus on management principles and systems analysis.

City Income Tax Deadline Set for April Fifteenth

Hubbard residents must file Hubbard city tax returns by April 15. Final forms for 1968 and declarations for 1964 have been mailed. Tax is one half of one percent for wages where city tax is not deducted. Delinquent accounts will be turned over to the collector for enforcement.

Hamilton seeks reelection for city auditor in May primary

Phyllis Hamilton, 112 Jackson S, seeks reelection as city auditor after completing her first four-year term. Announcement was made at the Hubbard Women’s Democratic Club meeting. Hamilton previously served as Hubbard’s Clerk of Council from 1962 to October 1967.

Hubbard Kiwanis Club marks its 34th founding anniversary with a Past President's Party honoring 46 former presidents. The Wednesday evening event at Oak Tree Country Club features current president William Mitchel and immediate past president Stanley Toke. Tax return access debate clouds Hubbard council meeting

Hubbard council authorized Law Director Rich ard Scullin to defend a suit by Mayor Joseph Baldine seeking to view income tax records in City Auditor Phyllis Hamiltons office. The auditor is named defendant though Scullin says she followed his ruling limiting access to returns. The measure also updated building inspection duties and eyed a gas station project on W Liberty and Cyrus.

Brookfield band to sell candy for gear upgrades

Brookfield Instrumental Department, with over 400 students from grades six through twelve, launches a two week door to door candy campaign on January 24 to sell 7,200 bars of World's Finest Chocolate. Each student has a two bar quota, with a one and a half pound bar selling for one dollar. The goal is to raise about $2,500 after expenses to fund uniforms and instruments, under directors Robert Furnes and Joseph Parlin.

Author of It Wonders We to speak at Chamber dinner

Carlton Lehman, a New Wilmington resident, will headline the Hubbard Area Chamber of Commerce annual dinner on February 4 at the House of Valley. His book It Wonders We offers humorous verse on Amish life. Robert Galbreath Jr. of Westminster College provides illustrations.

Hubbard High School Band Considered for Nixon Inauguration

A Jan 14 letter reports Hubbard High School Band under director Williams Moody was “highly recommended” to play at President Nixon’s inauguration. Ohio State University Band was chosen as Ohio could send only one band after a careful selection by Trumbull County Republican leaders led by E. G. Ted Johnson. The letter, sent to Moody, outlines the committee’s difficult choice and the Ohio Republicans’ final decision.
