Hubbard New Year celebration draws 300 amid ball drop
Melanie Gifford reports Hubbard residents welcomed 1969 with a joint H.M.R.A. and mayor sponsored New Year’s Eve event at the city building. About 300 attendees watched the lighted ball drop from the flagpole with fire department help. an organist played 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Refreshments and a fireworks display capped the night. Barb Schultz of the H.M.R.A. said turnout was lighter than expected at 10 p.m. and next year may start at 11 p.m.

Hubbard High School principal Richard Buchenk reports exchange student George Susic from Belgrade arrived Oct 2 after months of prep. A senior on Hubbard’s swim team he enjoys 100 breaststroke relays and freestyle though his home school has no swim program. He admires Joe Montana and is meeting American football enthusiasm with curiosity while soccer remains his favorite sport.

City may add three sergeants to police force
Police Chief Raymond Moffitt proposed adding three sergeant positions next year to supervise shifts and support patrols. Promotions would come from on force officers via a promotional test with years on the force as a cut off. Tests could be held around June after consulting the FOP and Civil Service Commission.

Dubyak reelected chairman as Hubbard Twp trustees meet
Gifford Hubbard Township trustees on January 3 re elected Mrs Helen Dubyak as chairman and named Fred Hanley as vice chairman. Police Chief Howard Bradley and full time staff were rehired with a seven percent pay raise. Part time officers will earn five seventy five an hour with dispatchers at four sixty. Zoning inspector Eli Moga’s pay rises to three twenty five monthly. Various board appointments and fee changes were approved along with sick day bonuses. The zoning board will convene January 24.

Hubbard City Council at the January 2 organizational meeting elected George Praznik as president pro-tem.
