City engineer Art Waldo released 1960 figures showing Hubbard issued 246 building permits valued at 1,514,048 dollars, up from 239? in 1959 though total valuation dropped from 2,640,833 to 1,514,048. Population growth highlighted by three year trend, with 83 home permits in 1960.

A 42 year old Sharon man narrowly escaped serious injury when his car traveling on the wrong side of Route 62 north of Hubbard collided with a semi trailer at 3 25 a m The driver John R Cochrane 61 River Rd Sharon entered the divided highway from Hubbard in the wrong lane and continued to Chestnut Ridge Rd where he struck the semi driven by Charles Gerner 45 Hubbard who was uninjured The vehicle was a total loss and Cochrane was treated for scalp lacerations at Sharon General Hospital Police followed by Pete Budno of Hubbard and a second motorist but could not stop him No charges had been filed as of Tuesday morning.

Two separate traffic incidents last week left two children with minor injuries and damaged city poles. On December 28 at 12 10 am Ben Hubbard traveled west on W Liberty Street near Fifth Ave when another car forced him off the road and his vehicle struck a city power pole. The pole replacement cost was 300. Hubbard faced reckless driving and driving without a licensed driver with a temporary permit. In a second crash on December 29 at 8 05 am Robert Stanton of Sharon drove south on N Main Street near Park Ave, knocked down a white way pole and hit a telephone pole. The car was a total loss. Stanton was uninjured and charged with unsafe operation.
Ina Jackson of 698 Moab Ave Hubbard township is charged with shooting Willie Felder of Youngstown in her home on Christmas night. The alleged weapon is a .22 caliber revolver. Charges filed in Warren Municipal Court by Constable Harry Coller on December 27. Bond set at $3000 pending preliminary hearing.
City council in 1961 session hires Richard Scullin as city solicitor joining Steve Chuey. Mayor Robert Allen vows not to sign Scullin’s contract until action is investigated. Council names appointments and approves a quarterly budget of 52 506 with wards division pending further details.
Dog licenses for 1961 must be bought by January 20 or face a 4 penalty. Riordan's Sporting Goods at 27 N Main St sells standard and kennel licenses with penalties rising after the deadline. All dogs three months or older require a license. noncompliance incurs fees.
Democrats outspent Republicans by about 3 636 in Trumbull County during the November 8 election. Total campaign expenses reached 35 989 with Democrats 18 117 and Republicans 14 481. The Hubbard Parent-Teacher Association will meet Thursday January 12 1961 at 7 30 p m in Pe Junior High School auditorium Dr Charles A Weed of the First Baptist Church will give the invocation. Mrs William MacDonald will present the program Develop mental Reading Explanation. Parents may visit classrooms after the meeting. a social hour with refreshments follows visitation.
