Hubbard Community Youth League age split sparks local split
Dispute over age group changes in the Hubbard Community Youth League prompted some players and parents to form a separate league. A compromise with the Park and Recreation Board set terms for field use and drafting rules, including options for players to remain in a junior or switch to a minor league. Registration on February 25 at City Hall will place players on computers for the first time in the league’s history.

Homecoming loses bid for site
Hubbard Board of Education denied Homecoming Association use of the high school parking lot for five years despite a proposal to repair and maintain the lot at a $2000 cap. Four members opposed with one abstention by Raymond Wells who is a Homecoming member.

City mourns loss of Hubbard optics pioneer Dr Crowe
Dr Thomas P Crowe 58 died Feb 16 in St Elizabeth Hospital after an 18 month cancer illness. An optometrist with Hubbard office, he served as city treasurer for 17 years and on council 1961 67. A fundraiser behind city finances and swimming pool, he supported school and Rotary causes. He leaves wife Marjorie six daughters five sons two brothers eight grandchildren and a wide civic record. Services were held at Stewart Kyle Funeral Home and Queen of the Holy Rosary Chapel.

Workers OK pact extension in Hubbard city contracts
City service workers represented by AFSCME Local 1256 have agreed to an indefinite extension of their 1983 contract while negotiations continue. The extension follows an earlier extension to the end of January. Separate talks with AFSCME Local 1256 and Police Lodge 132 also feature indefinite extensions of their 1983 agreements.
