The Hubbard News earned four Hooper awards at the 45th Ohio Newspaper Association convention, including first place in general excellence under 3,000 circulation and firsts in makeup and news coverage, plus a second in women's news. Charlene Rayburn and Mary Beth Kantor were editors. Phoenix Publications Inc. papers Poland Clarion and Girard News also won honors. The Austintown Leader also placed in 3,000 to 6,000 circulation.
