A nine man Hubbard group visited Pinehurst Country Club in North Carolina for ten days of golf despite rain and snow. Wil Son Patton hit a hole in one on the 151 yard par three 18th hole on Feb 7 using a five iron during a heavy rainstorm, the 14th ace of the season at Pinehurst often called Golf Town USA.

Fire damages home on Old Route 62 near Melody Lane Club
An estimated 10 000 dollar fire damaged Harold Kearns home on Old Route 62 near the Melody Lane Night Club last Saturday afternoon, believed caused by an electrical short in the basement garage. 18 year old David Crawford suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation and was taken to North Side Hospital.

Fine Youngstowner Fined for Battery Theft
A 20 year old Youngstown man, David Reynolds, was fined 25 dollars and costs by Mayor Robert Allen after being found guilty of stealing a car battery. Reynolds was jailed when he could not pay. Police say the battery taken from Eugene Magalotti of 431 East Liberty Street was stolen from a car parked behind the Hubbard Superette between January 24 and February 1.

Teachers Get $100 Pay Hike In Hubbard School System
At a brief meeting of the Hubbard Board of Education last week, salaries of teachers were raised. The new pay scale adds $100 to rewards for both bachelor and master degree holders. Minimums rise to $4,200 for BAs and $4,600 for MBAs, with 13 years’ experience capping at $6,800 for BAs and $7,200 for masters. Increments stay at $200 per year up to 13 years.
