Hubbard patrolman Miller gets five more days of suspension
Hubbard Township Patrolman Kenneth Miller had his suspension extended by five days to February 19 after a closed hearing on February 6. He previously received a 15 day suspension without pay ending February 14 for alleged malfeasance and misconduct in office. A two year reprimand will be added to his personnel file.

Township trustees aim to boost safety on I 80 interchange
Hubbard Township trustees met February 6 to pursue safer I 80 interchange improvements. They plan a meeting with the Ohio Department of Transportation and consider adding another traffic light. Hubbard Mayor Al Sauline summarized 1989 achievements at the Feb 5 council meeting. Highlights include retaining Federal Wholesale, saving 35000 in city income tax, meeting EPA sewer deadlines, razing the Palace theater and old utility building, opening the senior center and remodeled city building, and computerizing all departments. Streets were repaved, a used street sweeper saved thousands, a sewer hog purchased as a demo saved 30000. A new delinquent-utility program cut arrears from 96000 to 38000, and efforts to collect unpaid court fines bear fruit. Insurance costs dropped by 11000 after policy review. bids will occur this summer. Issue 2 funds will support the 189000 Westview Parish drainage project. A police blotter began to inform residents, and the REACH downtown-improvement committee was formed.
