Valentine display recalls turn of century postcards in Hubbard
The Hubbard Historical Society showcases valentines and related memorabilia in the city building. Pieces came from Pearl Fiedler, born 1875, whose aunt Stella Maikrantz preserves the collection. Among items are handmade undergarments, a Civil War era sweetheart box, and a double card with color bows indicating love responses.

Hubbard School Levy Fails. Board Eyes May Reballot
Hubbard voters rejected a three-mill, one-year levy to fund the district share of a state asbestos abatement grant and to replace doors at the high school and Reed Middle School. Chairman Ray Wells will seek a May vote as district officials consider borrowing to cover the grant portion of about $385,956. Superintendent Carl Morell supports moving forward, noting the need remains, especially to reopen the unsafe auditorium. A special meeting will decide grant acceptance and abatement contractor, with ballot terms to be set by Feb. 21.

Girl Scouts meet pen pal who served in Persian Gulf
Hubbard Girl Scout Troop 268 met John Weber a Navy veteran and pen pal who recently returned from duty aboard the USS Independence in the Persian Gulf. Weber, YNCS (AW) with 19 years of service, spoke of his Gulf tour and plans, while troop leaders and family noted the inspiring exchange for the scouts.
