Property Losses Low During 1960
Police chief Robert Greer reported to council that village losses from burglaries and thefts in 1960 totaled 10,658 with 3,672 recovered. After deducting 3,834 of metal stolen from Sheet & Tube Co. plant, unrecovered losses were 3,151. Losses included 34 under $50, nine over $50, 12 break ins, and three auto thefts. 1959 losses were 8,870 with 4,076 recovered. Council members commended police. 3 arrests in January and 16 accidents investigated.

City Council Orders Immediate Removal of Sewer By-Passes
Monday night the council voted to remove three temporary sewer by-passes installed by Hubbard a year and a half ago to relieve floods. The by-passes at N Main St E Liberty Sts and Myron St fed overflow into the creek when the sewer near capacity. The temporary measure followed a 1959 state grant and a failed $350 000 November 1960 bond for a main trunk line. The engineer and mayor plan to seek partial fixes for the north town area meanwhile.

The Baldine James election dispute concluded after nine days in Common Pleas Court with depositions planned from 65 absentee voters to verify how they voted for County Commissioner. 1961 Ohio License Plates Go On Sale March 1

Council Rejects Assistant Superintendent Post for Light and Water
The city council defeated at third reading an ordinance to create an assistant superintendent for the Light and Water Department. With six members to vote, two Democrats supported and two Republicans opposed, but two absent members left a 2-2 split and the measure failed 22. The post would have paid 500 dollars monthly and was urged by the Board of Public Affairs.
