Hubbard Volunteer Fire Dept Ships New Air Cabinet

The Hubbard volunteer fire department completed a new cabinet housing air for masks and equipment. Francis Rhodes of Civilian Defense arranged an air compressor purchase, with city light support for wiring. Firefighters built and installed the cabinet and will provide air to other area groups free of charge. Funds came from Firemen’s Ball proceeds, with additional city investment for the compressor.

Local boy meets pro athlete at boat show in Cleveland

Bobby Strachan spoke with Milt Plum at the Cleveland Boat Show last weekend. Plum autographed a photo for Bobby before the encounter, as Kiwanis Club promotes its 36th annual Minstrel Show at Hubbard High School with proceeds aiding underprivileged children.

Hubbard Village Races Set as Incumbents Seek Re-Election

Incumbent Democrats Zita Brewer and Ann Bair announce re election runs for village auditor and treasurer in the May 2 primary. They will face opponents Josephine Papa Sauline and Harriet C Hanrahan. Brewer has long service in village offices and Bair is completing her ninth year as treasurer.

A. Paul Rock filed nominating petitions with the Board of Elections to run in the May primary as a Democrat for the Third Ward council post. A Hubbard resident and WWII Air Force veteran, Rock is a barber at Rock's Beer Shop and active in St. Patrick's Church K of C Owls Club and Ma honing Valley Aeronautical Club. Hubbard voters learn three Democrats Sauline Tribby enter May 2 primary for mayor joining John Cook. Sauline a longtime councilman since 1958 and contractor resides at 551 Center St with wife Annabelle and children. Citywide dog drive targets stray canines

Police chief Bob Greer announced a campaign to remove loose dogs from the city. The Trumbull County Dog Warden operated in Hubbard last week and will return this week to seize unlicensed dogs and cite owners for violations. Residents are urged to cooperate with authorities.

Primary race heats up as 31 seek nominal posts

Indications of a hotly contested May primary rise as 31 local residents announce plans to run. By Tuesday afternoon Democrats totaled about 2 filings, Republicans eight, with Peter Mageros the new Republican candidate for councilman at large. Mayor Robert Allen and ex councilman Wilson Patton aim for the mayoral nomination. Others include Dale Washington for president of the council and Henry Clacko for at large councilman.
