Board Eyes School Levy and Repairs in Hubbard Meeting

Hubbard Board discussed a 2 mill permanent improvements levy for May ballots, approved researching bond rates with the Trumbull Auditor, and outlined a $3 million plan for roof units, doors, windows, field repairs, and electrical upgrades. A Roosevelt door replacement bid of 55,000 was approved with new substitutes added to staff and extracurriculars for 1988-89.

City Council Schedules 1989 Meeting Dates

Hubbard 1989 city council calendar lists regular meetings on the first and third Mondays at 8 p.m. in Council Chambers with 7:30 p.m. committee and caucus sessions. Public access, with dates including January 3 17 February 6 21 March 6 20 April 3 17 May 15 June 3 19 July 3 17 August vacation, September 5 18 October 2 16 November 6 20 December 4 18. Meetings begin at City Hall 33 West Liberty Street until new 220 W. Liberty Street building is ready.

First Hubbard 1989 New Year Baby Contest Underway

The Hubbard News seeks Hubbard residents' newborns to win gifts totaling 45 plus prizes. Eligible babies must be born to Hubbard residents with birth certificate, time and date presented to Phoenix Publications by January 31, 1989. If no winner by then, the contest continues until a winner is chosen. Parents must reside in Hubbard six months before birth and may have name and photo published.

Koppel Ornament at Smithsonian Trees of Christmas Exhibit

Brenda J. Koppel, Hubbard artist, has a porcelain tree ornament in the 12th annual Trees of Christmas exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Her 1983 piece is in the permanent Smithsonian collection, with 361 Society members contributing pieces for the 12 foot tree. The exhibit runs through January 8, 1989, featuring diverse themes across twelve trees.

New Year resolution books at Hubbard Public Library Spotlight

Hubbard staff promote self help titles to support resolutions in 2024. Subjects include overcoming procrastination, boosting self esteem, asserting yourself, achieving success, breaking bad habits, living beautifully, humor for peace of mind, stress and money management, job search, positive parenting, health and nutrition. City OKs joining Enterprise Zone project

City council approved joining the Enterprise Zone with Trumbull County to obtain tax abatements for businesses locating or expanding in designated areas. The Board of Control may contract Tele-Solutions Inc. to install and purchase equipment for the new city building. A study on the water plant’s future was authorized, with options beyond renovation costing 8 to 10 million dollars.

Ray's Big and Tall Men's Wear opens in hometown

Hubbard Ray Fox, a 1980 local graduate, returns home to open Ray's Big and Tall Men's Wear on North Main Street. The shop stocks big and tall sizes from medium to 4X and 3X to L to T, with sportswear, sleepwear, name brands, and accessories. Fox, previously at Gene's Wear, plans aerobics, bowling, and studying business at Youngstown State University. Store hours are 11 am to 8 pm weekdays and 10 am to 6 pm Saturdays.
