Reed Middle School advances a living arts program for grades five through eight. Guidance counselor Eve McKee says courses in cooking sewing and crafts adapt to a changing society. Plan probe of Ohio census push sparks hearings
Rep. Charles H. Wilson of Louisiana said reports allege political pressure to rush Ohio redistricting into law before the new Democratic governor. He scheduled Wednesday hearings and asked Commerce Secretary Stans and Census Director Brown to testify about the charges. Don Joshua was announced as Hubbard News sports writer with immediate duties. A 1958 St Columbia Elementary School alum of Youngstown, he later studied pre law at Ohio University then served in Army Intelligence for three years. He later attended Youngstown State University and works as a sales trainer. He returned to Hubbard in 1970 and is active in local athletics. The Hubbard Public Library Board of Trustees announced holiday closures and hours. The library will close December 25 and January 1, reopen December 26 with limited hours and January 2 with standard hours. Youngstown branches differ with Main Library open December 24 and regular hours resuming December 26.

School levy defeat halts pay raises for Hubbard teachers
Hubbard School Superintendent Loren Giblin says the four mill levy loss will halt teacher and staff raises for two years and may force borrowing to keep schools open. A Dec. 8 special election defeated the levy 1,462 to 927, risking program cuts and shifting costs to the district and residents.
