At a Hubbard school board meeting Superintendent Carl Morell said the high school auditorium remains 36000 dollars short of completing the planned renovations. A state grant funded asbestos removal and major work, with 225000 more potential improvements discussed.
Steering committees have been organized for the stadium and the upcoming levy. The athletic council was appointed to study the stadium situation where temporary scaffolding is needed to pass this football season.
The third annual Holiday Home Decorating Contest sponsored by REACH will be held Monday December 16. Residents may pick up registration forms at East Hill Florist or the Hubbard Municipal Building with a December 13 deadline. Blue lights identify contestants. winners named the week of December 22. Prizes donated by Hubbard merchants.
A proposed pay hike for city leaders and supervisors received initial approval at a Nov 25 special council meeting. Raises would take effect Jan 1, with key figures like the mayor and police chief slated for stepped increases through 1993. A budget work session followed, and a second reading was set for Dec 2. The council also updated the income tax ordinance to fine delinquent accounts.
Hubbard Township zoning board unanimously rejects a zone change for John Thiel to develop a tire recycling facility on about 58 acres along Youngstown Hubbard Road. Concerns include storage risk of millions of tires, fire and environmental impact, and lack of concrete plans. Recommendation now goes to township trustees for a public hearing within 30 days. trustees may approve or override with a unanimous vote.
Hubbard residents and guests will ride horse drawn carriages through Christian Avenue on December 8 from 5 30 to 9 30 p m. Tickets cost 3 for tours departing from the Municipal Building with Santa Parade and Christmas Tree display starting at 3 p m. Costumed narrators share histories of historic homes as pine wreaths adorn front doors in a turn of the century winter setting.
Hubbard residents and non residents with Hubbard income must file income tax returns. All Hubbard city residents 18 and older and non residents with Hubbard earned income are covered. Information sheets will be sent to affected residents and businesses.
