March 1 5 1982 week the Trumbull Unit of the American Cancer Society ran a Send a Mouse to College fundraiser in Warren and Trumbull County public schools. Students sought 87 cent donations to fund a research mouse going to college. Donors could give any amount for fractions of a mouse. Mouse badges and T shirts were offered as incentives. Public Education Chairman George Morar and coordinator Bill Blascak led the effort with school letters sent to parents.

Expansion of children’s center boosts treatment capacity
A million dollar expansion at the Children’s Rehabilitation Center in Warren will add 10,000 square feet and enable the outpatient clinic to serve about 150 more children annually. The non profit center now treats around 400 children yearly for orthopedic, neurological and developmental disabilities with a budget near 400,000 dollars.

Howland Springs Primary students in Mrs. Aurilio’s third grade class staged a dental health play titled The Toothache Mystery last week. The project merged Dental Health Month and Right to Read Week, with auditions, lines, costumes, and performances for multiple classes. The play, funded by Crest Professional Services of Procter and Gamble, aims to foster lifelong healthy dental habits while teaching memory, speaking, poise, movement, self-expression, and teamwork.

Homeless children seek adoptive homes in Northeast Ohio
Northeast Ohio Adoption Services lists 20 children waiting for homes at 8031 E Market St. The agency, a special needs program, works with Mahoning, Columbiana, Portage and Berea welfare agencies to recruit families for older children and siblings.
