Steel Beams and red light transform gallery space
Youngstown artist Brian G. Hall opens a site specific installation at Insignia Gallery transforming the space with corrugated steel, gravel floor, a rotating red light, and massive I-beams. Viewers walk through and around the environment, becoming participants in a contemplative, process oriented work about perception and force. The piece, reflecting Hall’s millwork background, centers on a “god in the box” concept and will remain on display at the gallery.

International Summerfest celebrates diversity at Idora Park
The International Institute of Youngstown partners with Idora Park to host a three day Summerfest over the Fourth of July weekend featuring foods from China Poland Hungary Korea Pakistan the Mideast Ireland Greece Afro-American cuisine and entertainment from Niles Senior Citizens Polish dances Hispanic music Irish songs Button Box Players and Harmonica Gypsies. UNICEF and Red Cross booths offer information and refugee project details while a flea market and gift shop showcase crafts records and books. The Institute will return in October for its 11th annual Family Folk Festival celebrating ethnic contributions to northeastern Ohio with food arts crafts music and dance.
