The Howland Quarterback Club says the varsity house renovation is well underway with $15,000 raised toward a $30,000 goal for the Tire sports conditioning complex. The facility will be open to all Howland youth and is set for completion this summer, with the Band Booster concession stand to be permanently located there.

Howland High School Distributive Education group excelled at the Eastwood Mall district conference. Fourteen local chapters competed with Howland students earning five first places and one fifth. First places went to Margie Lauka Jennifer Marchese Scott Mark and Lee Williams in various events. Second tier qualifiers advance to the State Leadership Conference in Columbus on March 23 and 24.

Howland police charged three juveniles with grand theft and drug abuse over a January weekend theft at a Wheelock Drive residence. About 15 to 20 juveniles attended two parties, with $2,815 in total items stolen including $1,500 of miscellaneous property, and drugs allegedly brought and sold.

Howland High School IOE students earned 14 trophies at the Mahoning County Joint Vocational School district event in Canfield Ohio. Anita Smith and Melinda Yocum will advance to the state finals in Columbus March 16 and 17 with Melinda Yocum taking General Clerical II first place, Laura Leventis third in Records Management, Cheryl Littell third in Word Processing, and other students earning top six finishes. Senior instructor Janice Medovich and junior teacher Susan Brucoli lead the program.
