Howland High School Howland Junior Varsity Debate Team took first in their division at the Tallmadge Lions Invitational with a 7-1 record, defeating Toledo Saint Francis and Akron Firestone. Team members include Val Mihalik and Beth Wright as affirmatives and Gene Mahaffey and Bill Luoma as negatives. This was Howland’s final tournament of the season.

Howland Township financial report shows a year end balance of 216000 with funds in general 40289 and road and bridge 74708 among others. Expenditures 1976 totaled 1067273, 1975 was 620483. 1977 resources total 1178147 with new road mileage 81.7 miles and four new hires in police and road departments.
