Miss Marcie Hunn RN of 3730 Norwood Drive advocates early prevention as the best treatment for heart disease. A 1970 Howland High grad, she trains as a cardiovascular nurse specialist via a seven month Arizona Heart Institute fellowship directed by Dr. Ted Dietrich. She lectures Chicago areas on diet, exercise and not smoking, promotes CPR training, and plans to move to Arizona before February end.

The Howland Bandwagon won third place for general excellence in newspapers under 3,000 circulation and earned first in women's news while taking second in makeup at the Osman C. Hooper Newspaper Show. Phoenix Publications Inc. issues eight weeklies and the Bandwagon is led by editor Miss Marie DeFelice with staff including Sal Marino and Robin Coller.

Howland Board Adds Italian and Updates Curriculum 1980 81
Howland Local Board of Education approved the 1980 81 curriculum with Italian added to junior and senior high schools and English mini courses cut. Graduation requirements remained unchanged. A career education resolution was adopted unanimously with cautions about elementary level basics. Right to Read Week was scheduled for early March. The district planned bus replacements with partial state reimbursement and transferred levy proceeds to the general fund. An agreement with Youngstown for data processing was approved. Summer courses were proposed, with enrollment study for remedial reading costs. Out of state trips to Disney World and a whitewater trip to Canada were approved, along with staff meeting attendances and several personnel actions. A Food Service Management Certification and arts program costs were approved, plus Title IV B and library funds allocations. John Emanuel praised staff for high test scores on Iowa Tests SATs and ACTs.

WARREN The Gordon D. James Career Center started National Vocational Education Week with an appreciation dinner for board members and guests in the Vega Room. The meal was prepared and served by junior and one members of the culinary arts class. An open house Tuesday evening drew a capacity crowd to view demonstrations displays and tours with details continued on page 3.
